Components for
Solar Energy Systems
The History of the Solar Research division
Refrigeration Research, the parent company to Solar Research, was founded
in Detroit in 1944 as a family business.
The founders recognized that the air conditioning , refrigeration and solar
industries would be closely interrelated, because each utilizes the same heat
exchange technology.

In 1960, the Solar Research name was registered as a division of Refrigeration
Research in Brighton, Michigan to manufacture and distribute components for
the solar industry. The company also became a member of The International
Solar Society.

Solar Research published its first solar compoments catalog in
1974. In the catalog we Prophesized:
We have seen this prophecy come true. Raising the evaporator
temperature of heat pumps by using ground water, geothermal or
other forms of solar assistance has greatly improved heat pump
performance.
                    INNOVATIONS
Solar Research is a leader in innovations, including:
  • First with production models of phase change solar systems
  • First with hydrogen copper brazed collectors
  • First with solar collectors and heat exchangers UL listed for high-pressure refrigerants
  • First in producing a complete water heating package separate from the water tank
  • First with a catalog of thermo-solar components
  • Active in developing ice making and solar assisted heat pumps and components
  • First to produce, use and market an improved solar heat absorptive paint containing carbon microspheres...Solar Research "Microsorb"
